There is no less than the future of progressive policies at stake in Florida’s upcoming election for Chair of the Florida Democratic Party. Several candidates are running and there are clear choices to be made.

Only one candidate has a proven history of building the Democratic Party by leading from within, transforming the county party from barely functioning with fewer than 100 people to thriving with more than 450 activists.

Building on this volunteer base, only one candidate has been able to increase county party fundraising by more than $1.5M and energize local Democrats to flip their majority Republican county commission and school board to Democratic supermajorities.

Ione Townsend has accomplished these grassroots victories by building from the bottom up, creating effective coalitions, and committing to transparency and accountability throughout. Progressives have been an integral component of Ione’s coalition. We have been encouraged to take on leadership roles, supported in our campaigns for elected office, and through it all, Ione has shown that she is a leader we can trust.

Florida Democrats have an unshakable responsibility to our communities, promoting traditional progressive positions like strong public education and environmental protection to fighting for critically timely needs like healthcare and economic support during this pandemic.

We can and must do better. The Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida Board of Directors is excited and proud to unanimously endorse Ione Townsend for Chair of the Florida Democratic Party and we encourage all of our friends and allies to cast their votes for Ione on January 9th.
